A description of a suspect being hunted over the serious sexual assault of a teenage girl has been issued by police.

The victim, from Knaresborough, was attacked on playing fields at King James's School in the North Yorkshire town on Sunday morning.

Detectives want to speak to a man described as 5ft 7in to 6ft tall with a muscular, heavy-boned build.

They also want two potential witnesses seen in the school's grounds on the day of the attack to come forward.

The suspect, whose face was covered, was wearing baggy, black trousers and an oversized black hoodie with a large pocket to the front, police said.

The first potential witness was seen on school property between 07:00 and 07:15 BST. The second was seen between 09:00 and 09.15.

Det Ch Insp Allan Harder, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "I believe that both of these men may have important information that could assist this investigation.

"I would also urge anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and his clothing to contact me as a matter of urgency."
