A busy road in York has partially collapsed because of a burst water main.

City of York Council said the leak had caused damage to a section of the A1036 Tadcaster Road near the Holiday Inn hotel.

The road was fully closed during rush hour to allow the emergency services to assess the damage.

The council said it had reopened one lane and installed temporary traffic lights.
