Man killed in car and bin lorry crash near Thruscross

A 70-year-old man has died in a head-on crash involving a car and a bin lorry on a North Yorkshire road.

The collision happened at about 08:55 BST between Blubberhouses and Greenhow Hill, near Thruscross reservoir.

North Yorkshire Police said the car driver, from Otley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the bin lorry was airlifted to hospital in Leeds and a passenger in the lorry was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The driver suffered a serious arm injury, while the passenger had a serious injury to the shoulder.

Police have appealed for the driver of a blue Mini who stopped to help at the scene but left before officers arrived to come forward.
