Woman raped near University of York

A woman was raped by a stranger on a footpath near the University of York, police have said.

Police said the victim, in her 20s, was attacked at about 02:15 BST on 13 May behind the university's Heslington campus.

She reported the attack, which took place on a footpath leading to Walmgate Stray, on 23 May.

The suspect is described as black, of medium build, aged between 20 and 30 and about 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall.

North Yorkshire Police said it was increasing patrols in the area to reassure residents and students.
