A woman had to be rescued while trying to get her dog out of the sea, the UK Coastguard has said.

It happened in Scarborough on Tuesday evening as she attempted to get her pug safely from the water.

The UK Coastguard said she was "incredibly lucky" that a lifeboat was on exercise nearby.

The woman and dog were brought to shore unharmed. Coastguards warned that at this time of year the sea temperature was only about six degrees.
