Man jailed for drunken behaviour

A man has been jailed for one month for drunken and disorderly behaviour in Londonderry.

Patrick Farren, 48, from Stoneburn Place, was arrested on 15 July.

Farren, who has 147 previous convictions, became verbally abusive when approached by the police.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly behaviour at Altnagelvin's A&E department on 27 June and was given a one month concurrent jail sentence for that offence.

District Judge Barney McElholm said it was regrettable that no compulsory addiction unit was available in Northern Ireland to treat people like Farren.
