Swimming pool not ready for 2012

A new swimming pool in Bangor costing £40m will not be ready in time for the London Olympics. The 50m pool was due to be finished in the summer of 2012.

Many sports, arts and community groups have already complained about lottery money being diverted to London.

North Down Borough Council chief executive, Trevor Polley, said it was never just about the Olympics.

"The main thrust of this has always been that there will be a legacy for the people of NI.

"It will the first 50m pool here and it will be useful beyond the Olympics and will available for the commonwealth games."
