A 30-year-old man has appeared at Enniskillen court on Wednesday morning, charged with attempted murder.

Stephen McCrea, from Riverview Park, Omagh, is accused of attacking Tracy Monteith at Cappagh Villas, near Omagh, in the early hours of Sunday.

Ms Monteith was stabbed in the head when she answered her front door.

Mr McCrea, who spoke only to confirm he understood the charge, was remanded in custody to appear, via video link, at court in Omagh on 24 August.

His solicitor told the court there would be no application for bail and that there was no forensic evidence in the case.

Ms Monteith is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital where she remains critically ill.

She had recently moved to the area and was hosting a house-warming party when she was attacked.
