Homes evacuated in hoax alert

A number of homes were evacuated in Londonderry overnight following the discovery of a suspicious object.

It was left outside a house in the Waterside area of the city shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

Two rows of houses on Corrody Road had to be evacuated and families spent seven hours out their homes.

Police and army bomb experts dealt with the object, which was later declared a hoax.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact police on 0845 6008000.
