Taxi driver thwarts van thief in west Belfast

The attempted theft of a van in west Belfast was thwarted on Thursday after a taxi driver blocked the thief's getaway.

It happened at a house in Andersonstown Park South in Ballymurphy.

The thief escaped on foot and the van was returned to its owner shortly afterwards.

Police in the area are also investigating the attempted theft of two handbags from two women on Thursday afternoon.

A shopping trolley bag was also stolen during the incident at Lake Glen Avenue.

One of the women is in her 80s, the other in her 40s.

Police are looking for two men in connection with the theft.
