Woman pulled from house fire in north Belfast

A woman has been rescued from a fire in north Belfast.

Firefighters were called at about 0500 BST to the house on Whitewell Road after neighbours raised the alarm.

After finding the kitchen ablaze at the back of the house, they searched the property and found her slumped behind the living room door.

The woman, who is believed to be in her mid-40s and lives alone, was resuscitated by firefighters. She is in a stable condition in hospital.

Fire officer Mark Beresford said: "They saved her life, there's no doubt about that."

He said it appeared to have been accidental.
