Tyres are slashed on priest's car

A car belonging to a Catholic priest has been attacked in Londonderry.

All the tyres on the car belonging to Fr Dermot McGirr from St Joseph's parish in Galliagh were slashed at the weekend.

A police spokesman said officers were yet to establish a motive.

SDLP councillor Mary Bradley said she couldn't understand why anyone would carry out such an attack.

"I would absolutely condemn it and I'm sure that the good people in the Galliagh area will also be condemning it," she said.

"Why would these people want to do this to Fr McGirr? Why do they want to do it to anybody?

"They have no right to be doing it - it should not be happening."
