Londonderry man jailed for causing 'hospital disorder'

A 48-year-old man who kicked doors and used abusive language in casualty has been jailed for five months.

Londonderry Magistrates Court heard that Patrick Farren, from Stoneburn Place in the Waterside, had been brought to Altnagelvin hospital in a drunken state by police officers.

Judge Barney McElhome was told that Farren's behaviour caused distress to people who were awaiting treatment.

Passing sentence, the judge said he had warned he would jail anyone guilty of disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin.

He said medical staff and patients were entitled to dispense and receive treatment in an appropriate environment.
