A high-risk sex offender who went missing after being released back into the community has been jailed for three years at Omagh Crown Court.

Ernest George Finlay, 55, Aughnacloy, was sentenced for breaching his sexual offences prevention orders.

He had served half of a 14-year sentence for raping women who worked as prostitutes. The court heard he used his dead brother's passport to travel.

The judge said he was a serial sex offender who posed a serious danger.

Finlay had seven convictions for rape, two for indecent assault and kidnapping.

It is the fourth time he has been convicted for breaching his sexual offences prevention orders.

He spent 10 months on the run before he was arrested in the Irish Republic last year.

Passing sentence, Judge David McFarland said Finlay had taken no steps to rehabilitate or conform with the lifetime sexual offences prevention orders placed upon him.
