The fire service has brought a large fire at an industrial estate in Londonderry under control.

Firefighters arrived at Balliniska industrial estate in the Springtown area just before 1300 BST on Tuesday.

Four fire appliances and officers in breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze within a couple of hours.

Businesses in the surrounding area were evacuated and traffic restrictions were put in place.

Sean McCrossan from Discount Home Supplies said the fire service responded quickly after he saw flames coming from a nearby business.

"The fire service were afraid the fire might spread and we were all evacuated," he said.

"We couldn't get the key holder so the fire service smashed the door in.

"They went to the rear of the building and what they saw was quite extreme."
