'Viable device' found in Bogside

A partially-exploded pipe bomb has been discovered in Londonderry.

The police said they found a viable device in the Lecky Road area of the Bogside on Thursday night.

A motive for the incident has not yet been established.

The police have appealed for anyone who was in the area before 2100 GMT on Thursday and who witnessed any suspicious activity to contact them.

SDLP Assembly Member Pól Callaghan condemned those responsible.

"People who bring disruption and destruction to the streets of our city serve no cause of Ireland.

"The people of Derry have resoundingly rejected the path of violence and these activities must stop."
