Two charged after Portadown shooting incident

Two men from the Republic of Ireland have been remanded in custody following a shooting incident in Portadown on Thursday.

Jim McDonagh, 51, is of no fixed abode and John Murphy, 36, is from Harcourt Street in Dublin.

Both were charged with robbery, false imprisonment and possession of an offensive weapon when they appeared at Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Mr Murphy also faced a separate charge of making threats to kill.

A police detective said he could connect both men with the charges.

The men were arrested on Thursday after a police officer fired a shot which went through the window of a pensioner's house in Obins Street in Portadown.

The pair are due to appear again via video link on 3 December.
