9,000 wait too long for appointment in West

The Department of Health releases its waiting list statistic

Almost 9,000 patients in the Western Trust area have been waiting more than nine weeks for their first outpatient appointment.

The figure of 8,883 patients was 17% of the total on the waiting list in the Trust area.

Across Northern Ireland more than 52,000 patients have been waiting more than the nine weeks specified by health trust targets.

This is an increase of over 47,000 patients compared to last year.

Almost 36,000 patients have been waiting more than 13 weeks.
