Terrorism charge against dissident republican dropped

A terrorism charge made against dissident republican Gary Donnelly has been withdrawn.

The 40-year-old, from Rathkeele Way in Londonderry, was accused of possessing a mobile phone for use in terrorism in September 2009.

In court on Wednesday the prosecution solicitor said it was to be withdrawn without prejudice.

Mr Donnelly's solicitor said his client had always maintained the case against him was without foundation.

He said that after his client was arrested he said the charge was ridiculous and he had been set up for his political beliefs.
