Pregnant woman among Monaghan crash dead

A pregnant woman and two men have been killed in a road accident near Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.

Three cars were involved in the crash, which happened on the N2 just before 1830 GMT on Monday.

The 39-year-old woman, who was five months pregnant, died in hospital on Tuesday morning. Her unborn child died a short time later.

Two men in another car, one aged 27, the other 28, died at the scene of the crash.

Three other people remain in hospital.

The dead were: Glen Curtis, 28, of Dunroe, Nobber, County Meath; Paul Carroll, 27, of Dunheeda, Kingscourt, County Cavan and Roisin Connolly, 39 from Drumcondra in Dublin.

The occupants of a third car have been treated for minor injuries.

Two children who were travelling with their parents in one of the cars were unhurt.
