North Belfast security alert declared a hoax

A security alert which led to the evacuation of homes and businesses in north Belfast has been declared a hoax.

Police said the Limestone and York Street had been re-opened to traffic. Earlier, about 50 houses and some businesses had been evacuated.

Crosscollyer Evangelical Church had been opened to accommodate people who have had been moved from their homes.

North Belfast DUP MP Nigel Dodds condemned those behind the alert.

Meanwhile, police have announced the closure of Curraghmore Road at the junction of Drumbane Road, in Garvagh, County Londonderry, due to the discovery of a suspicious object.
