The funeral of 20-year-old Shane Bonner, who died after being hit by a lorry, will take place at Convoy Roman Catholic Church, Ballybofey, on Monday.

Mr Bonner died in Letterkenny General Hospital on Friday.

The All-Ireland cross country winner was hit by a lorry on the Lurgybrack Road at about 0415 GMT on Thursday.

Patsy McGonagle, the manager of the Irish athletics team, paid tribute to Mr Bonner.

"Shane was involved in athletics since he was nine and was well known in the area.

"He was an engineering student at Letterkenny and just got his exam results. We'd been chatting about that the last time we spoke."

The Irish police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
