A 61-year-old man has admitted sexually abusing two sisters over a nine year period at Londonderry Crown Court.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had initially pleaded not guilty to 43 charges of indecently assaulting the girls between 1993 and 2002.

However before the trial was due to begin on Tuesday he pleaded guilty to 24 charges of indecent assault.

He was released on bail and will be sentenced next month.

The defendant was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

The judge described the offences as "very serious" and told the defendant to prepare himself for a "substantial jail term" when he is sentenced.
