Man charged with Belfast rape and attempted murder

A man has been remanded in custody charged with raping and attempting to murder a woman in Belfast.

Robert Burton, 21, of Lomond Avenue, Belfast, is also accused of false imprisonment, assault, threatening to kill the alleged victim and possessing an offensive weapon, namely a knife.

The offences were allegedly committed at a location in the city on Sunday.

Mr Burton, did not apply for bail during an appearance before the city's magistrates' court.

Burton was remanded in custody to appear again via video-link next month.
