Elderly sisters robbed in their Castledawson home

Two elderly sisters have been robbed in their home in Castledawson, County Londonderry, by a gang of men.

They were in their house in Cregagh Hill when three men broke in at 1940 GMT on Friday. One was armed with a knife, another had a screwdriver.

The sisters were held in a room by one of the men, while the other thieves ransacked the property before leaving with cash and a phone handset.

The women were left shaken but uninjured.

The police said the men all spoke with southern Irish accents.

In a separate incident armed men broke into the home of two elderly brothers in Ballymena on Friday night.

The gang shot one of them with a starter pistol causing minor injuries to his hand.

The gang left with cash and a shotgun.
