East Belfast trio victims of kidnap and forced robbery

A man has been arrested after three people were victims of a kidnap and robbery in east Belfast.

Two men entered a house in the Downshire area on Saturday at 1900 BST.

They tied up two young people and forced a woman to go to her workplace and take money.

As she did so, a man was put into a green Rover car and driven from Downshire, through the Cregagh Road, Woodstock Road and Alberbridge Road.

He was set free, unhurt, at the bottom of the Lower Newtownards Road at about 2030 BST and asked a newsagent nearby for help.

Meanwhile, the kidnappers met the woman in Bryson Street in east Belfast where she handed over the money.

The green Rover car, described as being "quite dirty" and had the registration number XIW 1743, was later found burnt out in Comber Gardens in Short Strand.

A man was arrested in north Belfast on Sunday and remains in police custody.

The PSNI would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident.
