Buildings evacuated after device found in Newry

A number of buildings have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious object in Newry, County Down.

Army bomb experts have been tasked to examine the object which was found in the New Street area of the city.

Police were called to the area after 1400 BST on Tuesday.

Church Avenue, New Street, Kildare Street, Trevor Hill, Basin Walk, Sugarhouse Quay, Canal Quay and Erskine Street have all been closed.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area and to use alternative routes.
