Lithuanian man faces Dungannon murder bid charge

A 34-year-old man, who is originally from Lithuania, has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his stepfather.

Dainius Tijunaitis of Union Place in Dungannon was accused of attempting to murder Vladimir Tijunaitis, 52, who lives at the same address.

The charge relates to a stabbing at the weekend.

The victim was found in the Market Square area of the County Tyrone town on Sunday evening.

Proceedings were related to the defendant through a translator.

A detective told Omagh Magistrates Court he believed that he could connect Mr Tijunaitis to the charge.

Defence solicitor John McCaffrey did not make a bail application.

The defendant was remanded in custody to appear back before Dungannon Magistrates Court by videolink on 25 May.
