Bishop of Dromore welcomes Pope's abuse report plan
The Catholic Bishop of Dromore has welcomed Pope Benedict's call for bishops around the world to promptly report all priests suspected of sexually abusing children to police.
Dr John McAreavey said it underlines the church's ongoing commitment to address the issue.
Bishops have also been given a year to draw up detailed plans to help victims.
Justice Promoter at the Vatican's doctrinal department, Monsignor Charles Scicluna, helped to write the letter.
