Man treated after flat fire in Newcastle

A man has been treated for the effects of breathing in smoke after a fire in a ground floor flat in Newcastle, County Down.

Fire crews were called to the property at Burrendale Park Road shortly after 0000 BST on Saturday.

The occupant of the flat managed to escape and was treated at the scene.

Smoke from the fire had spread to several adjoining flats. Three people were led to safety.

The fire was extinguished by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus.
