A County Down pub chain has been placed into administration.

Wen Inns controlled 15 premises, including the Hillside in Hillsborough, the Portaferry Hotel, Lisbarnett House near Comber and The Esplanade in Bangor.

The pubs are continuing to trade.

The Belfast Telegraph has reported that Bill Wolsey's Beannchor group is running them on behalf of the administrator with a view to buying some of them.

The pub trade in Northern Ireland has been badly affected in the economic downturn - dozens of pubs are in administration and a significant number of landlords have been bankrupted.

Wen Inns was in effect the pub arm of the MAR property group. MAR is continuing to trade.
