Gerard O'Kane charged with murdering his wife

A 51-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his wife.

Gerard O'Kane, of Hollybrook Avenue in Newtownabbey, is accused of murdering 50-year-old Ann Marie O'Kane in Belfast on Monday.

She was found dead in a flat in Northview off the Antrim Road. She had been stabbed.

Mr O'Kane was remanded in custody after appearing at Belfast Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

Mr O'Kane, who was estranged from his wife, was arrested after going to a police station in Glengormley on Monday.

Appearing in court, he nodded to confirm he understood the murder charge against him.

A detective sergeant told the court he could connect Mr O'Kane with the alleged offence.

Mr O'Kane was remanded in custody to appear again via video link in four weeks time.
