A Newtownabbey man has been remanded in custody accused of an attack in which a woman had part of her ear bitten off.

Craig Wright, 20, faces a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the 19-year-old victim.

She was assaulted in the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey early on Sunday morning.

Appearing before Belfast Magistrates Court, Mr Wright, of Green Walk, Rathcoole, spoke only to confirm he understood the charge against him.

A detective sergeant said he could connect him with the alleged offence.

Mr Wright's lawyer confirmed he was not applying for bail at this stage.

The accused was remanded in custody at the Young Offenders' Centre to appear again via video-link in four weeks time.
