Police are searching for vandals who broke into a school in north Belfast in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Little Flower school on Somerton Road was ransacked, with sectarian graffiti written on the walls. Two windows were also broken.

Police have said they were called to the school at about 0100 BST on Wednesday morning.

SDLP MLA Alban Maginness said that the vandals had smashed a window to get in and let off two fire extinguishers.

North Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin, who is a former pupil at the school, said she had been in contact to offer practical support.

"The news of this overnight attack on the school is distressing and will certainly impact on the local community," she added.
