The Shandon Hotel, a favourite with many Donegal lovers, is up for sale for 1.5m euros (£1.34m).

The four star hotel which overlooks Sheephaven Bay and Marble Hill Strand went on the market on Tuesday.

Formerly owned by Dermot and Catherine McGlade, the hotel went into receivership in February.

Dermot Rainey, from estate agents Sherry FitsGerald Rainey in Letterkenny, said they were optimistic of a successful sale.

"It's a fine property with a lot going for it," he said.

"The phone is already ringing from people who are interested."

The hotel has 71 bedrooms, a leisure centre with pool, a 9-hole pitch and putt course and tennis courts.

Also on site is a self-contained spa with eight treatment rooms, including a relaxation room overlooking Sheephaven Bay

The property is being sold as a going concern and the hotel and spa have both opened for the summer season.
