Navy divers join search for missing Sean McNair

Navy divers have joined the search for missing Londonderry teenager Sean McNair in County Donegal.

Malin Head Coastguard said searches began at about 1400 BST on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old from Creggan has not been seen since he fell from a pier at Rathmullan on Saturday morning.

He had been at an 18th birthday celebration with friends.

The Naval Dive Team said it would continue its operations over the coming days.

Sean's mother Jackie has appealed for help in finding her son so she can bury him at home.

Coastguard teams, RNLI lifeboats and members of the Rathmullan community have been searching for the teenager since Saturday.

They have asked members of the public to join the search, which has been hampered by bad weather.

Jackie said the support her family had received had been "overwhelming". She also praised the efforts of rescuers.

"I can't fathom what is ahead of me," she added.

"It's going to be so hard to do what I have to do and I need all the support I can get.

"I never thought I would be burying my son ever, I'd rather go before him."

Jackie said her son was not a strong swimmer, but decided to go into the water after several other boys jumped from the pier.
