Man charged after Kircubbin stabbings

A man arrested in connection with two stabbings in Kircubbin, County Down, at the weekend has appeared in court in Newtownards.

Robert Philip Hawthorne, 43, from Cooks Brae in Kircubbin, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and with having an offensive weapon.

It follows the stabbing of a 32-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy on Sunday morning.

Mr Hawthorne was refused bail at the hearing on Monday.

He is to appear before Newtownards Magistrates Court via video link from Maghaberry Prison on 12 August.

The man and boy were taken to hospital after the stabbings, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
