A large search operation has started a week after a Londonderry teenager disappeared in Lough Swilly in County Donegal.

Sean McNair, 17, from Creggan, went missing after jumping in from Rathmullan Pier last Saturday.

Diving teams, the coastguard and local people have been taking part in searches.

On Monday, his mother said she wanted to get her son "out of the water" so she can lay him to rest in Derry.

Manus Patten, from Malin Head coastguard, has been part of the search team.

"It has been a week and every day there is a huge response from the coastguard, people from Derry and locally, people from Rathmullan, doing their best to resolve this problem," he said.

"Unfortunately up to now we have been unsuccessful but it is still ongoing and we will continue for some time.

"We do have about 20 boats taking part in the search this afternoon. We have also dive teams taking part and it is quite an extensive search.

"A lot of people are willing to come out and give a helping hand."
