Police in appeal over boat thefts

Police are asking boat owners to help them cut crime on the water.

In the last year 500 outboard motors have been stolen across Ireland. In response the PSNI has launched a new initiative.

It involves removing the engine cowling when the boat is not in use, and replacing it with a weatherproof cover.

Inspector Roy Robinson said a thief would have to spend a lot of money to replace it before it could be sold on.
