Homes evacuated due to New Lodge hoax bomb alert

A bomb alert which caused homes in the New Lodge area of north Belfast to be evacuated was a hoax, police have said.

The alert on Upper Meadow Street began at about 10:30 BST on Friday.

Army bomb disposal experts were sent to the scene to examine a suspicious object

Residents were moved from Upper Meadow Street and Hillman Street and St Kevin's Parish in North Queen Street was opened for those affected.
