Bid to steal Dungiven cash machine fails

Three men wearing balaclavas attempted to steal an ATM cash machine from a post office in Dungiven in the early hours of Monday morning.

The men smashed a window in a door, put a chain around the ATM, attached it to a 4 by 4 vehicle which had been stolen, and tried to drag it away.

They were unsuccessful and the police have appealed for witnesses.

In recent years there have been a spate of ATM robberies in various parts of Northern Ireland.

In 2009 the police said thirteen ATM machines were stolen.
