A 14-year old boy has been remanded in custody charged with sexual offences against children, some alleged to have been committed when he was 12.

The defendant, who cannot be identifed, faces numerous counts of sexual contact with children during 2009 and 2010.

He is further accused of making a threat to kill and unlawfully and injuriously imprisoning a child.

An assault charge dating to 12 July this year is alleged to have occurred in Moneymore, County Londonderry.

He faces three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and being in possession of a lighter as an offensive weapon in regards to that incident.

It is understood all the victims are children.

A detective constable told Dungannon Magistrates Court she could connect the accused to the charges.

There was no application for bail and District Judge John Meehan said the boy "ticked all the boxes" for being remanded in custody, despite being a child.

The case has been adjourned until 6 Sepetmber,
