Postman punched and thrown into van in east Belfast

A postman has been assaulted and bundled into a van in east Belfast.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was punched a number of times on the back of the head in Bloomfield Avenue at about 10:40 BST on Thursday.

The police said his attacker ran off towards Bloomfield Parade with a mail bag.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack to get in contact with them.

DUP East belfast assembly member Robin Newton described the attack as shocking.

"For such a crime to have been carried out in broad daylight is particularly concerning," he said.
