A teenager charged with the attempted theft of a cash machine in Dungiven has had his bail revoked and been remanded in custody.

Thomas Gerard Ward, 18, appeared at Londonderry Magistrates' Court charged with breaching his bail conditions.

He was also charged with burglary and the theft of a television and £100 cash from The Cage Sauna in Derry.

A police officer told the court the defendant, of Daisyfield Park, has convictions for theft and burglary.

Five of the previous convictions were in Northern Ireland and the officer said he had a similar record in the Republic of Ireland.

Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded in custody to appear in court for a video link hearing on 22 September.

Mr Ward and four other people appeared in court over the attempted theft of the cash machine from a post office in Dungiven at the start of the month.

The five - three of them teenagers - are members of the traveller community.
