Elder abuse project report launch at Stormont
A report on a project to tackle elder abuse will be launched at Stormont later.
The Uniting Against Elder Abuse project has given independent advocacy to frail older people and those with dementia.
An evaluation of this work has found that elder abuse in Northern Ireland is significantly under-reported.
Marian Cinnamond from the Alzheimer's Society, said the report showed the importance of independent advocacy in tackling the issue.
"Elder abuse, whether physical, financial, psychological or neglect is happening and is undoubtedly under-reported," she said.
"Evaluation of the project found that clients who used the advocacy service were unanimous in their belief that UAEA involvement had benefited them.
"Having independent, well-informed support to ensure your voice is heard made a difference in every case the project undertook."
