MPs briefed at Westminster on NI fuel laundering

The full extent of petrol smuggling and fuel laundering in Northern Ireland will be revealed to MPs later.

On Wednesday, senior customs officials will give details at an evidence session in Westminster.

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has launched an investigation into fuel smuggling.

In 2008, an all-Ireland anti-fuel fraud group was formed to help drive those who trade illegally in fuel out of business.

Representatives of the Serious Organised Crime Agency, the PSNI, customs on both sides of the border and the Republic's Criminal Assets Bureau are involved.

South Belfast MP Alasdair McDonnell is a member of the NI Affairs Committee.
