The Coast Road Hotel in Carrickfergus has closed after the company which owned it was wound up over an unpaid tax bill.

Bailie Hotels Ltd was wound up following a High Court hearing earlier this month.

The hotel had been in business for around 50 years and employed 25 staff.

Owner Roland Bailie told the Carrick Times newspaper business had been hit by the extreme weather at Christmas and road works being carried out near it.

The hospitality sector in Northern Ireland has been badly effected by the recession with a significant number of businesses closing.
