A County Antrim businessman has gone on trial at Belfast Crown Court accused of fraud over the alleged false selling of holiday homes in Turkey.

Kevin O'Kane of Ballyneese Road in Portglenone denies 28 offences.

Twenty-seven of them relate to obtaining money transfers or cash by deception from people who thought they were buying holiday homes in Bodrum.

The court was told the scheme involved 50 homes and 70 purchasers, most of them from Northern Ireland.

Prosecution QC Liam McCollum described the property scheme as a scam and a trick.

It was alleged Mr O'Kane claimed he was either the landowner, developer or builder of the Golden Beach Villas in Bodrum.

However, Mr McCollum said Mr O'Kane didn't have the authority to sell the homes.

The trial is expected to last for three weeks.
