Petrol bombs and other missiles have been thrown at police attending a bomb alert in Lurgan, County Armagh.

The alert at North Street has now ended and been declared an elaborate hoax by the police.

However, the railway line in and out of Lurgan remains closed and motorists have been asked to avoid the area if possible.

Police said they had come under a sustained attack with petrol bombs, missiles and two other hoax devices.
