Allan McKenzie to face retrial for abusing nieces

A Ballyclare man accused of raping two of his nieces is to face a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict on some of the charges against him.

Allan McKenzie, 49, from Bellevue Place was last week convicted of five sex offences against three nieces carried out more than 30 years ago.

At his trial the jury were undecided on four other charges, including the rape of two of his nieces.

A judge has now ruled he is to be retried on those charges.

McKenzie's nieces, who waived their right to anonymity so their uncle could be named were in court for the hearing.

A defence barrister told the court he would be appealing his convictions.
